Chi Cheng of Deftones in Coma!

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is in a coma following a serious car accident. He is being held and is considered "serious but stable condition". Deftones front man Chino Moreno broke the news to fans via blog saying "It deeply saddens me to inform you all that our brother Chi Cheng was involved in a terrible car accident last night. He is currently in a Northern California Hospital in serious, but stable condition. I am on my way up North right now to be by his side along with the rest of our band mates and family." He adds, "Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I'm praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well."

iTunes shutting down?

Apple could shut down its iTunes music store this week, if a verdict from the US Copyright Royalty Board forces the company to pay higher royalty rates.

A ruling is expected by the board today (October 2) on an application by the National Music Publishers' Association to raise the royalty fees paid to its members on songs purchased from online music stores including iTunes.

The association wants to increase rates by 66 per cent, from nine cents to 15 cents per track, whereas Apple wants a decrease to 4.8 cents per track, reports CNN.

In a statement submitted to the board last year, iTunes vice president Eddy Cue said that Apple would not stand for an increase:

"If the [iTunes store] was forced to absorb any increase in the... royalty rate, the result would be to significantly increase the likelihood of the store operating at a financial loss - which is no alternative at all," the statement read.

Cue added that Apple would have no qualms about shutting iTunes down if it was not making enough money.

"Apple has repeatedly made it clear that it is in this business to make money," he said, "and most likely would not continue to operate [the iTunes store] if it were no longer possible to do so profitably."

Research analysts Piper Jaffray predict that Apple will have an 85 per cent share of the digital music market this year.

So remember when Kurt Kobain's ashes were stolen from Courtney Love? WEEEELLLL a Danish artist named Natascha Stellmach is claiming she has the ashes and will be smoking them to " set him free". It is supposed to take place on Oct.11 at the "Set Me Free" Exhibit at Berlin's Wagner + Partner gallery. When asked how she got the ashes Stellmach said "That's confidential and kind of magic. They came to me. And I am setting him free."

From First To Last drop off Tour

If you were hoping to catch FFTL soon well then you may already know ( maybe not) but the have dropped of the tour. The band had this to say on their myspace blog.

Since Matt Manning has to deal with some legal issues back in the homeland we have to drop off the remaining 7 shows with Scary Kids and Finch. Which is Florida, Louisiana, and Texas. We are extremely bummed because this tour has been such an awesome time. We've made some really good friends and had some great shows, so it is very upsetting to us that we have to leave. But Matt Manning is going to take care of all the bulllshit.

Once again we are so sorry to all the people that were looking forward to the show but we will make it up to you soon. You should all go to the show regardless because all the bands on it are fucking sick and make for a great time.

Even though Hunter did some guess work on Tegan and Sara's "The Con" album, doesn't mean thats all you will hear from him and Tegan.

"We've been writing dance songs together, and we're both too old and tired to be in another band on top of the bands that we're already in so we're just going to try and sell the songs to other people make them do the work. But we kind of work on stuff together, which has been really nice and then we always have a million projects up our sleeves so we'll keep making ourselves work all the time because if we don't we'll get into trouble I think."

"Mutual appreciation for each other's work. He emailed me, and I was still answering fan mail in those days, and I didn't believe that he was actually in A.F.I. I thought he was just pretending. So I did a lot of research. I asked him a lot of questions, and I asked him to meet up with me in L.A. the last time and he didn't weird me out. So, I was like, 'OK we can be friends, so...' I just started sending him old songs that I really hadn't done anything with, and he just started redoing all the instrumentation and stuff. I never actually collaborated with anyone up until that point. I never even... Me and Sara don't write songs together, so it's really weird. I feel explosive and angry at times by his comments, but I really like making music with him, so maybe we'll do it again."

Tegan And Sara are set for a fall tour starting September 20th at the San Diego Street Scene. Their latest single is "Call It Off."

Pink Floyd keyboardist dies at 65

Rick Wright lost his battle with cancer and has passed away.
“The family of Richard Wright, founding member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time,” said Wright’s spokesperson.

David Gilmour has posted this on his site. No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend. In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognized Pink Floyd sound.” He later adds, “Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously.”

Only vapid indie hipsters who imagine that they are so far removed from popular culture as to maintain a staunch indifference to its pervasiveness declare this absurdity. Yes guys I understand. You love JUSTICE and new balance sneakers and organic foods and denying the origin of any of your cliché ideas for a song. But the truth is, creativity comes not only from an awareness of influences but from a study of how they offend you. if it weren't for MTV award shows there would be no music devoted to its undoing. There would be no antiplots and miniplots and archplots that make direction and story writing what it is. If I didn't hate METRO STATION as much as I do I would never fully appreciate the brilliance of true music played by musicians. I am proud to be a part of a culture that will not make a countdown on a local radio station. And if I do, then it is under the same pretense that that creepy asshole in glasses came into the Emersons house in The Lost Boys. Get the invitation, then ruin all you come into contact with. Maybe one day ill be invited into the "House Of All The Rage". But if I am, I promise I'm bringing my bloodsucking friends with me. See you on tour.

a Message from Celtic Frost/Triptykon's leadman said this.
"The intense rain outside continues unabated, and, far in the distance, the torn, grey clouds merge with the earth, obscuring any hint of a horizon. A fitting scenery to a final act of ignominy. I attended seven and a half funereal hours of meetings yesterday, initially with Celtic Frost/Triptykon manager Antje Lange, then including Martin Eric Ain and Celtic Frost's accountant, to discuss in detail the dissolution of most of Celtic Frost's business arrangements and the distribution of the group's remaining assets. What an infinitely doleful and emotionally draining undertaking, and one I did not ever wish to witness. And yet one that was probably unavoidable."

Lacuna Coil's first DVD

Gerard Way, lead singer of My Chemical Romance has said their fans my have to wait a bit for a New My Chemical Romance CD.Way had this to say to Gigwise.
“It's hard to say at this point, but musically, how Black Parade tapped into the glam, classic rock of Queen and Ziggy Stardust, this taps into something different — not punk, but maybe in its proto sense,” Way said.

“The aesthetic — it is extremely different, and it is more stripped-down too. When we get a chance, we're going to get together and do some demos and start rolling.”

He said that the band were “going to take it slow”, however, adding: “People need to kind of miss us because there was a point in the last two-and-a-half years where you could have seen us at least once a month if you wanted."

Way also has stated that he is working with DC comics for a secret comic project.

MCR to do Dylan cover?

Thats the buzz going around. Apparently it will be for the new DC movie "Watchmen"

Director Zach Snyder had this to say “[Frontman Way] is a super-great guy, and an awesome musician, and so we’re trying to work with them right now to put together possibly a song for the end titles,” he revealed, adding that he wants MCR to revisit a classic Bob Dylan song. “[They’ll perform] like a cover of “Desolation Row,” or something like that.”

The track will close out the film, and will be the only modern composition making up the movie’s soundtrack. “I’ve talked with him and I’ve heard a little bit of some stuff that’s he’s done,” Snyder said of Way’s early attempts to take on Bob Dylan. “And it’s pretty freaking cool.”

Now I really am excited to see this movie. what about you guys?

Craig Owens Attempts Suicide

Chiodos front man Craig Owens is being checked
into a mental clinic starting tomorrow at 8 am,
after a failed suicide attempt on July 20.An entry
on the Chiodos website was recently removed,but here's
what it originally read:

"so, after an attempted overdose early yesterday morning, i found myself awake in the emergency room around 8 - 12 hours later.

however, don’t worry about me, i’m fine. i am being checked into a mental clinic beginning tomorrow at 8 am.

i’d like to apologize to everyone at Power Chord Academy, for me not being able to make it to speak to all of the kids tomorrow in Chicago. i promise to make it up, the best that i can and hopefully will be able to reschedule the entire event.

wish me luck, and let’s hope that i learn from this, and that i am able get out very soon.

Project Runway

Season 5 started last week and I didn't want to admit it at first but todays episode convinced me that this seasons competitors are ummm ... not project runway material. I am liking the new people more and more but as far as their work: I feel like they are all trying too hard to introduce fresh ideas into the fashion world and on the way forgot to take a look at their complete garment and judge it as a whole. Some of the peices are flat out amateur. I would like for all of them to prove me wrong on next weeks episode because so far it has been a hot tranny mess (as my all time favorite Christian would say)
Moving on, I JUST found out that Project Runway will be moving to Lifetime and I don't know how I feel about that just yet. Heidi Klum says it will be shot in L.A. for about half of the season and it will have a "Hollywood flair". She also claims that the concept of the show will be the same but that it will have a "face-lift" But wait, What's Bravo going to do??
No worries a new a new show called Fashion House will be filling in the whole that Project Runway is leaving behind. It is based on a U.K series. Entertainment Weekly reports that the competitors "replicate the workings of the fashion business through a fashion house. Teams of designers will live together and work to create an entire line — rather than just individual pieces — that has the potential to be purchased by commercial buyers."

No set date has been posted for the premiere but I will post as soon as I find out!
I can't wait!

Haste the Day kick out guitarist

The christian metalcore act decided to let go one of their friend.
The band had this to say
"This is going to come as a shock to many of you. After much prayer and thought given to the matter, we asked Jason Barnes to step down from his involvement with Haste the Day. For a while Jason has been searching and searching for real meaning in his existence. After several months of reading literature and talking with friends, Jason had determined that he felt there was no God and certainly no Jesus. We as a band do not have problem with those that do not believe in Jesus, nor do we cast judgement on those that do not believe in Jesus. We just want to love on people like Jesus would and hopefully share a little bit about what he's done and doing in our lives. We would call ourselves a Christian band and for that reason, we felt we couldn't have someone in the band who didn't agree with the band's foundational drive.. Jason's new found disbelief in what the rest of us have committed our lives to began to cause disunity within the band and as a result, we prayed and talked about it and felt like God was saying it wasn't time for Haste the Day to come to an end. Thusly, We asked Jason to leave.

"We love Jason and it pains us all to not be on the road with one of our closest friends. It has also been a miserable experience for Jason to not be a part of something that he has been a part of for so long. We are all working on mending the tear in our relationship with Jason and are hoping to be able to continue to call him friend. We will not be replacing Jason with a new guitar player. Our friend, Dave Krysl, will be our full time touring guitar player. The 4 of us (Stephen, Devin, Brennan, Michael) all wrote our new album which will be called "Dreamer.""

Schools in Russia are trying to ban the black nail polish, black lipstick and head to toe black outfits. They insist that "emo" and "goth" attire encourage suicides.

Now, everyone from YSL, Marc Jacobs to Gaultier have incorporated some goth and emo into thier work. And right now, Russians are some of the catwalks' biggest and most enthusiastic patrons.

There was a protest held yesterday in Siberia... I don't know how much attention a protest can get in Siberia.

METALLICA'S Death Magnetic album artwork

Yes as the title already says this is the album artwork for metallicas "Death Magnetic" album due out in September.
Another first for the band and the gaming world is that the day the album comes out, all tracks will be available for download to play on guitar hero 3 and the new guitar hero world tour.

Also a deluxe box set edition of the album will be available in the U.S. The coffin box package will contain one CD featuring the album, another containing demos, a behind-the-scenes DVD, an exclusive T-shirt, a Metallica flag, a collection of guitar picks, codes for a special live download and a poster.

That's right, our new record, Appeal To Reason, has been completed and will be released October 7th, 2008. As you may know, we have once again teamed up with our friends Bill Stevenson & Jason Livermore, who produced Appeal To Reason at the Blasting Room, along with their capable team of engineers. Bill & Jason are the genius' behind The Sufferer & The Witness and also the responsible for the re-mix of our first record, The Unraveling on Fat Wreck, as well as numerous other songs, including our recent cover of "Little Boxes" for the show "Weeds.

If that wasn't exciting enough, we've teamed up with some old friends for a fall tour and are hoping to bring it to your town. RISE AGAINST, ALKALINE TRIO, THRICE, THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM. We considered giving the tour some fancy name, but then realized that nothing looks or sounds as good as those four bands together, in our own humble opinion.
